VB&A was founded by José F. Vega to assist clients in the business community of the Colon Free Trade Zone, the second largest free trade zone in the world.
Our firm emerged as J. Vega & Asociados, an intellectual property (IP) boutique based in Panama City representing domestic and international clients.
The first conviction for trademark counterfeiting since Panama’s Industrial Property Law enactment was issued in a criminal case filed by J. Vega & Asociados.
J. Vega & Asociados successfully advocated for the creation of the IP Specialized Prosecutor’s Office (presently, the IP and Cybercrime Specialized Superior Prosecutor´s Office) in Panama.
J. Vega & Asociados urged authorities to establish a commission to propose a reform to Panama’s IP legal framework, resulting in the enactment of Law 1 of 2004 which amended the Industrial Property Law and the Criminal and Procedural Codes.
The firm added corporate law and business law to its areas of practice.
The practice area of alternative dispute resolution opened.
Cyberlaw, tax law,immigration, wills and foundations were added to our areas of practice.
An anti-money laundering (AML) and financial crime area opened.
Forensic auditing is added to our practice.
